The Claims Behind the Somdetic Device
This little beauty is called the somdetic and it’s meant to protect the body from the effects of electromog, which is the combination of waves and fields that we’re exposed to from modern technology. So that includes things like geopathic stress, EMF, free radicals, and it’s meant to structure and energize water and harmonize your living space according to the marketing material.
I am actually really excited to have one of these because I’ve seen them going around and I thought they look hella cool and there’s maybe something to it, but at the price point I couldn’t justify taking the risk. But I wasn’t satisfied with the online reviews and as a doctor and curious cat, I had to go and test it out for myself. So I’ve been down so many rabbit holes for this video, so you better appreciate this YouTube. I’ve peed on sticks. I’ve tested my heart rate. I’ve had this in and out of my room and wrapped things in foil and everything.
I’m going to cover the theory behind this device, the claims of the device, the human data, my results, and my recommendations. This is not a sponsored video. They have kindly sent me this one for free, but with no stipulation on what I should say, as you know from our channel, we don’t blindly promote stuff.
Limitations and Approach
I should also say that this is not a field of medicine that I’m familiar with. This is more the territory of functional medicine stuff and the mechanisms that I’ve described at the start. It’s the first time I’ve really been exposed to them properly. I’m not quick to say that this stuff is rubbish because any new idea gets dismissed as quacky at first and then it gets integrated into modern science and medicine. And actually, when I look into the processes and mechanisms that they talk about, there’s definitely something going on, but it’s just not that well documented in the science. And I’ve had to revert to documentation from the producer and my personal experience.
Understanding the Mechanisms
How the Device Claims to Work
The main mechanisms that the somdetic device claims to work through are mitigating the effect of EMF electromagnetic frequencies on the body, producing negative ions, and structuring water and as a result harmonizing your environment within a 100 m radius. So theoretically my neighbors are getting their environment harmonized for free.
EMF and Electromagnetic Stress
There are definitely electromagnetic fields that are produced by wiring and Wi-Fi and cellular devices and all that kind of stuff. And the data shows that it does interfere with our concentration, our sleep quality, causes headaches and allergy exacerbations and generally causes oxidative stress to our cells. The mechanism by which this occurs is most likely the disruption of catecholamines and stress hormones: adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine, cortisol.
EMF stress is real. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. And you’ll probably notice that if you go out for a couple of nights in the country and you sleep like an absolute log, part of it is probably because you’re away from a lot of these environmental disruptions. The hard part is obviously separating that from holiday mood, better food, or the lack of noise.
Negative Ions and Water Structuring
I’ve seen mixed and unconvincing evidence in general about negative ions and the effects on human health. Regarding water structuring, there is a grain of truth to the structured water thing, but the flagship study by Masaru Emoto wasn’t reliably replicated. The idea is that you can impact the way that water is structured when you give it positive emotions and positive intentions and prayer and that kind of thing.
The Device Itself and Proposed Benefits
Physical Design
The product itself is a set of crystals and precious stones arranged in a pyramid structure in a glass dome. Some of the precious minerals are integrated into the glass itself. It’s a set of proprietary minerals. There’s a green lamp as well that functions as an indicator that it’s working. They very much believe in the product and they’ve got a 60-day guarantee with raving testimonials about it.
Claimed Health Benefits
- Improved sleep
- More energy during the day
- Fewer headaches, particularly in women
- Less brain fog
- Feelings of calmness and peace
Bioresonance Therapy
The proposed mechanism of action is bio-resonance therapy. That’s outside of my area as a medical doctor. Bio-resonance therapy in general stimulates the self-healing powers of the body via meridians. I’ve never heard of that before. All I can say is that from looking at the data, something is happening. The body does have its own fields and electromagnetic frequencies, but I don’t know if we are sophisticated enough to be able to manipulate them with technology.
Testing Methodology and Results
My Testing Approach
Basically, I tried to measure as much as I could. I established a baseline. I then introduced the device and then I withdrew it and then reintroduced it. So I was trying to see how I felt and what my numbers did when I was exposed to it and then when I took it away and then had it back again.
I got HRV, sleep data, mood, and stress. I was going to do an ESR as well, that blood test I mentioned, but actually the last ESR blood test I did last year was too low to begin with and it wouldn’t have been a particularly exciting result.
Heart Rate Variability Data
I started using it on the 8th of April and turned it off on the 25th of April. I noticed that I didn’t have any super high readings after that. And then I came back from the US on the 1st of June, reintroduced it, and you can see it kind of recovering. Yes, it’s a blunt analysis and a trip to the US is a bit of a shock to the system anyway with jet lag and so on.
Urine Markers and Oxidative Stress
I didn’t see a huge difference in the urine free radical strips either, but my baseline was already pretty low. There’s no massive fireworks, but generally positive trends. And I’ll leave it up to you to interpret that.
Final Assessment
I wasn’t someone who was initially sensitive to EMF anyway. There was loads of variables going on. It’s really hard to do a proper test when you’re living a normal life and I didn’t do a proper statistical analysis. In general, I still really like this device. I think it looks really cool as well. I’m going to start putting it in the background of videos.
If you are someone that’s concerned about EMF in general, you should probably turn off your Wi-Fi router at night and try some of the other mitigation strategies, too.
If it’s something you’re interested in, they have that guarantee so you can always try it and see if it works for you.
