In theory, progress does just come down to a managing a calorie deficit consistently. However, this is very reductionist advice. It’s similar to saying that getting rich is easy, you just need to save more and earn more. In reality, managing a calorie deficit consistently is incredibly difficult.
Once you’ve covered the basics in your diet and training, there are no bonus points for doing more than that. The hard part isn’t “eating a calorie deficit”, the hard part is dealing with the ups and downs of your life and that’s where your energy should be focussed.
